Floreal purchased and repurposed an old salt mine in East Germany to be used as both a special waste repository and an underground recreation venue. It also achieved the substantial side benefit of preventing the overlying town from sinking into the nearby lake. The mine was purchased from the Treuhandanstalt for US$4.1 million.
